Title : Battlefield of the Mind ; winning the battle in your mind
Author : Dr Joyce Meyer.
Publisher : Harrison House, Inc.
This book is about how we can overcome the negative thoughts in our minds, and what we can do to apply God’s word in our lives. There are strongholds which the devil attempts to build in our minds, causing us to lead defeated, Christian lives. However, we can overcome the devil by the weapons that God has given us. (2 Cor 10:4-5)
Therefore it is very important that we have the Word of God consistently in our daily lives. So that when the devil attempts at putting negative thoughts in our minds, we are able to tear down the strongholds, by the word of God!
When negative things happen, we tend to think on the negative side, and what was worse is that we will meditate on these negative things. The battlefield is in the mind.
Dr Joyce Meyer shared about some conditions of the mind and even some ‘Wilderness Mentalities’. Over here, I’ll share more about the Wilderness Mentality.
#1 My future is determined by my past and my present.
That in itself is not true. Without a vision, people will perish. (Pro 29:18) But there are times where people will look at their past (esp failures) and decide that they are not going to have a good future. They may take past experiences as examples and make them even more negative, fearful, causing them to reject what God wanted for them to achieve. I'll say, my future is determined by what i'm doing today, and to do the best today, so that my tomorrow will be fruitful and with God's anointing, our future is in His hands, and we can trust HIM in that!
#2 I don’t want the responsibility
Maturity is the ability to accept responsibility. And as written in the book, the Children of Israel did not want to take any responsibility, and leave it all to Moses. Sometimes, not wanting to accept the responsibility could indicate that the person is lazy.
#3 I can’t take it if things are too hard.
When things come hard on us, we should not give us. Phi 4:13 says that we can do all things through Christ who strengthens us. Also, not to forget that the Holy Spirit is here with us. He is our Parakletos, who is here to help us. When we finally struggle through things that are hard, we had lessons learn, though with a price, but we will also grow stronger.
#4 I can’t help but to grumble and complain.
The children of Israel complained and grumbled against Moses and Aaron, and it caused them to delay their entering into the Promised Land. Complain doesn’t come from our mouth unless it forms in the mind first. We never know what can come out of our mouths when we grumble and complain without restraint. Grumbling and complaining are all negative power that if we are not careful, it can allow the devil to overpower us
#5 Don’t make me wait - I want it now!
When a person refuses to wait, it could be a sign of pride. A proud person will not tolerate patient waiting, because he thinks too highly of himself to be inconvenienced in any way. And sometimes, such demands can be very unrealistic. Remember, God's timing is always timely!! Remember the Potter will determine when the clay will be removed from the shelf.
#6: It’s not my fault!
Dr Meyer cited an example about how Eve and Adam shifted the blame to each other, and even God! When they ate of the tree of the fruit of good and evil. (Gen 3:12-13) Sometimes when things happen, the first thought is “It’s not my fault” and even attempt to shift the blame to others. In situations where things happened because of a past fault, people would usually quote this “What if…..” and even “But….” Remember, the children of Israel in the wilderness always looked back longingly for the life in Egypt, in bondage with sentences such as “If we had not left Egypt….” Responsibility is accepting the responsibility for what has happened and decide on the action to make, restitution.
