6th May 2006: Singapore Election Day

Today is 6TH May 2006, the Singapore Election Day.

It's a declared public holiday, because the votes of the people of Singapore will determine which party will get into parliament. The previous one was held in 2001.

In total, there are 4 different political parties who are contending for the 84 seats in parliament. They are:
  1. People's Action Party (PAP)
  2. Workers' Party (WP)
  3. Singapore Democratic Party (SDP)
  4. Singapore Democratic Alliance (SDA)

Since young, my cousins and my brother attended PAP the Kindergarten.... Usually we know PAP as the kindergarten =)

Among the 4 groups, the most well-known is the PAP, as well as being the biggest group.

Ok, let my put the results of the voting.... I was watching the election results live since like 10 plus till like 12plus.

PAP won most of the votes, except for

  • HOUGANG - Mr Low Thia Kiang (刘成强) of the Workers' Party (WP)
  • POTONG PASIR - Mr Chiam See Tong (詹时忠) of Singapore Democratic Alliance (SDA)

Well, it's pretty interesting i must say. Well.... I don't really know who Mr Low Thia Kiang is, but one thing that struck was that the news said that he's not exactly a media-darling... Mr Chiam See Tong is one who i think is really someone that is not exactly forgettable. He also won the previous election. I have frens who stays in Potong Pasir, and they really supported him.

Well.... i guess it's good to know, to be more concerned about what is happening to our country. Though i didn't get to vote.

All in all, PAP won 82 seats out of the 84, while SDA held one seat, and the WP held the other one.

Though i'm not exactly a supporter of any parties (I didn't vote this time), but i applaude the fighting spirit of the 2 opposition politicians.

Hmmm... SDP didn't garner any seats.

Chorus Board duty.

Today is a day where i need to rise up even more in the ministry.

There were only like 6 of us. And i was posted to do praise, announcement, sermon.

Phew!

First time our team did "Paint the town red" and it's a first time for me, flashing that song..

I can't deny that i was quite apprehensive. Was trying to find out how the song really goes and to ensure that i do it correctly.

First time i'm live on doing announcement. Something went wrong. But at least it was remedied... though quite slow.

Today both the side and mains really put Kelvyn's head on the chopping board...

Side board flashed the wrong part of the song during the 3rd song, and main board (me) flashed something that is different from what Bro Poh is singing. It's quite confusing lah.

Tml i'm on side-board. I'm determined to make it good tml.

It will be good!
