Hmmm, i noticed something interesting.... The Engineering and Technology sector has quite a bit, IT is a few, prominent ones in the various industries that i see is GMP Recruit, Kou Fu, Kiddy Palace, Stansfield, TAKA Jewellery. But does this mean that they are hold the biggest pie in their various industries?

Let's see who are their contenders for next year's E50.......

GMP Recruit: They are up against 3 other big competitors in the recruitment market, which is Kelly Svcs (Formerly Business Trends), Recruit Express, and Adecco. But does it mean that GMP is the market leader in recruitment, since it being a real big market for it? Not to forget the smaller recruitment companies to vie for this humongous pie. GMP is not that strong in its branding. Recruit Express is very agressive, or should i say, overly agreesive? Adecco seems to be more aggressive in Malaysia than Singapore. I base them on the way they post their ads. GMP is pretty quiet, i must say.

Kou Fu : They are up against Kopitiam Holdings, Select Food, Banquet, NTUC Food fare.... basically all the foodcourt management holdings. I think it's a relatively new company. As compared to Kopitiam Holdings, they are not that big. Look at Kopitiam, they have their niche with the Kopitiam card and they are found in various places. It's quite good for their distribution, i must say....... Is Banquet part of Kopitiam? They seem to be very near Kopitiam, esp in shopping malls. Can't miss them together.

Kiddy Palace : Well, Singapore market isn't that saturated in terms of toddlers and kids. They are against Toy'S'Rus which is kinda an Internationl brand. Kiddy Palace lacks in the branding thingy. When people think about Toys, they sure think about Toy's'Rus rather than Kiddy.... Kiddy is more of a departmental store. I feel that they are selling their stuff, but they dont' have a Unique Selling product..... Whereas Toy'S'Rus focus mainly on toys....

Stansfield : They are up against the various PEOs in Singapore. They include Informatics Group, MDIS.... yah, that's the 2 prominent ones that i could think of (in terms of branding and media advertising). Stansfield has just coming up in the recent 5-10 years. In Terms of branding, Informatics win hands-down, with their branding. When we think Informatics, we think IT Courses. Stansfield is the UOL-education provider as far as i know. MDIS is strong in their marekting and advertising, but just that they have not establish their Unique Selling Point that makes them stand out.

TAKA Jewellery: They are up against quite a few comptetitors, namely SOO KEE (Stephanie Sun's endorsing), Aspial-Lee Hwa, Poh Heng, Tian Poh and that company that Fiona Xie and Joanne Peh is endorsing (refresh my memory pls). To be fair, i think TAKA did quite well, because i have to admit that TAKA'S crowd is pretty different from that of the rest. This is based on their price ranges as compared to the rest. Those that uses celebs to endorse their products tend to more well-known. Maybe they can try that, to boost their branding. But overall, i feel that all these big companies are generalizing on their jewellery. Poh Heng for one, to me, it's pretty traditional, and attract the older crowd.

Looking at things, i must say all of these organizations has a lot to work on. Being enterprising is not about just sprouting retail outlets everywhere. Beware of overcrowding (one typical example is Cheer's 24/7 competitor). It's about expanding smartly, and foreseeing what can happen, and being able to react to business situations and making sure it earns.
