Today, i happened to be at Bugis, after Gym, so was thinking very hard on what i can buy, in May after the building fund is over. In fact, i foresee that i'll complete it next week! Hallelujah!! And as u guys know that i'm looking for a new phone, and i'm still waiting for 21st month to come, so that i can change, and pay only the price to 'upgrade the phone'.
It was pretty crowded today, but the service staff was more friendly. So i saw a few more phones, and there was this staff who was promoting this phone.
Let me formally introduce this: It's name is LG KU800. I have to emphasize that this is not KE800. This phone is called LG Chocolate 3G. It's really cool, because it's an 'upgraded' version of the original chocolate that comes with white and ! pink. And the 3G edition has only black at the moment. Will introduce this phone a bit more later.
Anyway, i was shown the phone. It's really very stylish, but there's one this that amuses me. The promoter showed me her phone. Which is a good thing. U have to be really convinced of the product to sell it well. But what makes me um-chio is, she's using a singtel line. A LG KU800 in M1 shop, using a Singtel line?! But she was really nice to let me touch the phone and showed me the features.
But u have to really 'interview' a few ppl to be totally convinced of the phone. So, this is the results of my research.
Reuben Lee talked about the pro's and con's of the phone.
Upside:
One of the key reasons for the success of the original Chocolate lay with its clean yet sexy design, which the Korean company has retained in the 3G edition. Thus like its predecessor, the new KU800 comes in a sleek slider form factor complete with by now familiar glossy piano black finish and buttonless touchpad navigation keys. Interestingly, the new Chocolate 3G is a mite smaller, though it's also become marginally thicker and heavier. There are some distinct cosmetic differences between the KG800 and the new KU800. For starters, the primary camera is now at the rear rather than hidden within the sliding section. This being 3G, a second VGA camera sits beside the phone speaker for 3G video calls. The microSD card slot on the left edge is certainly a welcomed addition as the 128MB onboard memory on its predecessor was simply insufficient for storing images and music. The irony is that the use of the microSD card is capped at 1GB for the phone. Music lovers who want to carry more MP3s on the Chocolate or users who aim to store videos may chafe at this limitation. Battery capacity has been increased from 800mAh to 1,000mAh, probably to handle the increased power load due to added features such as 3G, video calls and microSD card slot.
Downside:
While 3G is a useful feature to have, particularly if you plan to travel to Korea and Japan, we wonder if LG should have gone with the faster HSDPA standard instead, considering that rival Samsung has already introduced several new models with the new technology. There's also the omission of an FM tuner and A2DP Bluetooth stereo support which are increasingly standard features on handsets these days. Our biggest gripe, though, has to lie with the touchpad navigation controls. In our hands-on with the KU800, these were still not as easy to use or intuitive as regular buttons.
According to CNet.com it's got quite a high rating of 7.5 out of 10.
Other things that i've found out:
1) Does this phone has chinese? According to M1 website, it does have chinese language. It's currently retailing at $338 on a 2 years (or 21 months plan) with M1.
2) Service Centre? Hmmm... enlighten me please.
This is going to be one of the two phone's that i'll finally shortlist. The other contender will be Sony Ericsson W850i, which is pretty similar as they are both sliding phones. SE 850i has walkman functions, this is where LG loses out. Function wise and aesthetics-wise (i'm quite a sucker for it), it's going to be a tough fight. But i'll have about 1 month to think through before i do anything.
