Ever since the movie came out, i know that i will want to catch this movie. I mean, come on, this is a Singaporean movie. And to make it memorable as how the Taiwananese love Taiwan, the movie started showing on 9th August, which shows how we Singaporeans love our country too. =)
And i caught it yesterday after work. U know ah, i have to sacrifice my gym day to do that. I won't let myself spend a whooping $11 bucks on a movie ticket, so Tuesday is the day. I have read positive reviews on the movie by Weiying, and when she says it's good, u betta believe it ok, she's working in Mediacorp. So she knows a good or a terrible movie when she sees it. Also, Cherie has given her inputs on the movie. And both of them have requested for me to blog about it. So here goes :)
P/s: Cherie, if u realized, i copied the 881 poster from ur entry, because i have a hard time looking for the correct size. hehe
To coffee lovers, don't you drink too much coffee (New Paper 13th Aug 2007), before u get hysterical and can't control your tears and laughter and end up hyperventilating. Remember, balance is the key!

How i feel about the movie
It's very Singaporean as a movie, not just because it's produced/directed by Royston Tan, but it's the 'feel' u know? Very hokkien-ny, since half the time Liu LingLing speaks in Hokkien, while the other alter-ego of hers stands on the role as a 'goddess of Getai' dressed in a kick-ass butterfly suit. And it's tickles when she asked: "Si Mi si Techno" and the 'Chen Lei lookalike' says: "Tech jio si No, No jio si Tech". *flips* Also, the narrator who was dumb in the show, is in love with his pet cock, which in the whole show it's is known as a 'Jiao' (Bird). It's funny, but it's wrong to say that the 'Kuey' (chicken/cock in hokkien) is not a 'jiao'. Because. Cock is a type of bird, lah. Hahaha I also see God's common grace being depicted in this film. It talked about the 2 papayas, who loved each other more than their own lives, even onto death. And how unity is strength. It also shows of love between sisters, sacrificing one's life for the mistake of another, fighting for one's own right, having the resilience to fight through inspite of difficulties, death and loss of joy, and how out of sight will never mean out of mind even through eternal separation. It's a very funny, yet touching (i don't think ppl will cry buckets, but it touches to the core) show, with 110% of Singapore flavor with all the farniest hokkien connotations. Not very Jack- Neo style as i thought. So, Royston Tan, i recognize him to be in the same league as Jack Neo. =) This is a must-watch lah. Especially if u are Singaporean. It will be kinda wasted if u don't understand Hokkien, but u will still enjoy the show lots though it sucks to understand the whole show through reading the sub-titles only. One tip for u: Go and get a 2 day crash-course in Hokkien before the movie. I guarantee that u will relate even more to the movie. My Rating: ++++
