Happy (Belated) Birthday Singapore!

Yesterday was 9th August 2009. 44 years ago, Singapore became an independent nation.

This is one year that i didn't even catch the national day parade. *Tsk tsk. Cause i was really busy. I guess when u get older, the things that excited you previously, now other things takes precedence. Such as earning money. Yeah, was giving tuition.

But, i still love Singapore, even though i was busy eating at 8.22pm, while the whole of Singapore was saying the National Pledge. (We, the Citizens of Singapore........)

There are also ppl around me to remind me what's the theme song for this year.

Anyway, it is 'What do u see??'

English version

Chinese Version

Ariel-the-kiddo sent me another version, which i thought is a comical spoof-off by Mr Brown.

Seriously, if you were to ask me today, in relating to the title of the song. I see 2 things:
1) Economic recession - Are we getting out yet? Are we getting stronger? Is the economy going to improve by end of the year?
2) H1N1 Scare - everyone is scared. Going to doc's with flu and fever they'll tell u that 90% of ppl with flu have H1N1. Is there another wave of sickness coming our way?

Despite these 2 questions, as a Singaporean, i'm proud to say that, we are managing well. Whatever that comes our way, we will tackle it! Economic downturn? Tackle! H1N1? Manage it!! Though we have 9 deaths as of today, but we are more ready. SARS has made us more vigilant and prepared, even if the next wave comes.

We are small, yet we are resilient. We may not be strong in terms of resources, but we are ready for anything that comes up. And for that, I love Singapore. It is home, Truly.

Happy Birthday, Singapore!
