Countdown to Sundown Half Marathon – 7 days

Despite the fact that i hasn’t been blogging very much about my running this year, i’ve actually been running and preparing for my inaugural (u won’t read this until i run my very first 42km full Marathon), Half marathon.

OK, Truth be told, i don’t feel totally prepared. For one, i do have frens with running teams who tell me to join them for the prep runs, which i couldn’t commit to. But what i do is to try to be diligent by going for weekly runs at the stadiums (Bukit Gombak, Pioneer, and the recently-renovated Clementi – check out the new and fresh red tracks!) At times, i also run to West Coast Park, which at many a times, it’s after work, and by the time i finish, i’ll prolly run fast, cos the park is really dark and i wanna really safeguard myself.

Usually, my runs are usually 6 – 7km in a single seating. Of course, i know that it’s nothing much compared to a 21km in one seating. But i’m gonna try my very best. I’ve bought powergels and powerbars in preparation, and been sleeping much earlier (though to many, 1230am can be considered early meh?)

However, i do have a confidence, and an EXPECTATION that i will complete, and hope i can meet my personal target for 3 and a half hours. Besides, the timing is in my favor (i’m a evening runner), and the terrain is in my favor (straight road for at least 3/4 of the way).

What i’m missing is an SPI, which i think i’ll just get a little waist pouch, and that will solve the whole issue.

7 days to go, what i can do is to continue to sleep early, and start on carbo-loading, as well as watching what i need. I need the bananas.

So in 162 hours time, my 21km race will start. And i know that it will be a new benchmark for my runs once again. And from there, what i will aim will be:
- Army half-marathon (Sep 2011)
- Singapore Half Marathon (Oct 2011)

It’s another exciting year of running for me, another benchmark to make this year! :)
