Well, many years back, this program was featured on tuesdays nights. But in the recent years, it was reschedule to be shown on sundays. Last time, its chinese name is Xing Qi Er Te Xie.
Anyway, this season's program was called Xian2 Ren2 Mian3 Jin4 (meaning, intruders stay out! ) Haha... ok that's my translation.
It was entering the SATS Building (was it?) and see how the people inside there manage the many many tonnes of food that was being delivered on a daily basis. And the weirdest thing is when doing QC checking, where the staff need to use a ruler (?!) to measure the size of a fruit, or vegetable.
It may really sound crappy enough, but as the show goes on, i understand why. U know, the size of the fruit will really affect the total weight on the plane? Just like what the person quoted in the show, it's liken to having place a limit on the weight of the luggage. Wow! Never know right? Me neither.
There's one more thing: when a plane lands, the crockery is quickly washed and filled with the cooked food. As the show said, each person will have about 4-6 crockery (including bowl, plate, tray etcetcera), and imagine a big Boeing will take about 500 passengers, so within say 45 mins, they must wash a WHOOPING 3,000 - 4,000 crockery!
And not just that, let's say if the same plane is on a transit, then, the washing and food placement is to be done fast! Wha!!! This hasn't even count in the need to ensure the temperature of the food in the crockery remains at a certain temperature.
Man! Watching this show, i think i'll really learn to appreciate the airline food, esp since knowing what goes into it. Don't see the stewardesses struddle in like this, a lot more people at the backend are doing all the hardwork!
Side note: I only sat on Garuda (Indonesia) and Qantas-BA (Aust) before. So, i don't really know if the food is prepared by the same people. I think the people at SATS are really ppl of great tenacity. The environment is super stressful lor and they have to produce quality food for different airlines.
But what i have to say is this: I think i look forward to trying out SQ. Garuda erm... *no comments*. Qantas is quite nice for their breakfast.
All in all, this show is a must see!!! It's shown on Channel 8 on Sundays at 10pm.
