Forty Two years of Independence =)

Today is National Day. Meaning to say that Singapore has enjoyed 42 years of independence. And we are counting to many many wonderful years ahead.

Singapore was joined together with then Malaya, Sabah and Sarawak and Malaysia was formed. Though this merger will enable Singapore to have certain growth, however there are a lot of racial tension, where there wasn't any fair treatment of certain races. This led to to Singapore to be expelled by the federation. And because of this, Singapore had to be separated from Malaysia, and became an independent state.

On 9th August 1965 (42 years ago), Singapore became an independent nation, with our current Minister-Mentor, Mr Lee Kuan Yew and other political leaders, they led this small, state, which suddenly became an independent nation. There are uncertainties that was being faced. However, 42 years on, Singapore had exceeded many areas, to become a very prosperous nation, with many world-class accolades such as SIA, Changi Airport etc.

This is just a summary of Singapore. And what an apt day to look back and know that Singapore has come thus far.

I remembered when i was young, i always looked forward to National Day Parade (i mean, now, what's national day without the parade huh?). And every year there seems to be some differences, and even more this year. With the demolishing of the National Stadium, NDP 2007 was held at Marina Bay with all the water, air and land.

Anyway, back to my younger days. As i was saying that i look forward to the parade shown on tv, i also look forward to seeing the helicopter that bears the national flag hovering past the skies near my house. It always brings a smile to me. Not to forget the singing of the national day songs, such as "Count on me Singapore", "Stand up for Singapore".

But in the recent 2 years, i wasn't that patriotic la. In 2005, i was out with CG to JB outing (Terrible huh), last year, i was also in JB (Haiz...). So definitely, i missed out on the main parade, and don't even remember having the time to watch the repeat telecast. But this year, it happened that i was in Singapore, and managed to find a TV to watch it.

I was watching the parade on MobileTv, and rushed home to watch the telecast at home. What i want to say is that, it really feels good to be Singaporean.

2 years ago, i won't say this, because i really gian going to Australia to study (but that never materialize). There are quite a few things that i really really hate about Singapore:
  1. Serious Traffic Congestion =((
  2. !@#$%^&* expensive ERP charges!
  3. The forever hot and humid weather

However, there are also good points u know:
  1. There's MRT to rescue us from all the congestions (though it sucked to get squeezed) =)
  2. Expensive ERP = means that the government is SMART to, you know.
  3. Prosperous CBD and Economic Development plans
  4. Stringent law (it's not easy to follow law-by-law, but it's good for us)
  5. We are fiercely defending our country be it brawl (SAF) and brain (Government leaders)

Looking at this, there are more good points that supercede that of bad points. =)

I'm Singaporean, and this is my home. I should be proud of being a Singaporean. When i was watching the parade, and seeing the Singapore flag, and the singing of all the songs that i've known from young, it touched me. I realized that if i were in other countries, would i be as touched? And i know and i know and i know is this: I am SO SO SO proud to be a Singaporean. I won't want to give up my citizenship at any day, EVER!!

SO Singapore, Happy 42TH Birthday. I love you and i know that all of us do too. And Cheers to many many more years of prosperity ahead!!
