PSLE Results

Today's 22nd November 2007. It's D Day where the PSLE Results are released. It's the day where Ariel, my student Kido and me are also getting the results, as to whether if our combination can create miracles.

When i first taught Ariel in June 2007, it was already like pretty close to PSLE... About 3.5 months away. And i know that i have to put in quite a bit of effort, seeing that i only caught on to her so close to exams. I told her mother and her that we will work hard together, though i'm no miracle maker. Her maths foundations are weak, and she scored like 20+ and 30+ for her maths, and around 40+ for her science.

From there, i set goals with her, i work with her. Ariel is hardworking, u know? She's one of my most hardworking students that i ever had, which i really appreciate. She does my homework promptly, and miss out only when her school homework is overwhelming. She's stressed, i'm stressed too. But she works hard.

And today, i'm pleased to announce the results of our hard work together. Oh, and a long-lost student, Geraldine (younger sister is Rachael) , finally appeared on msn, and told me her results.

Ariel
English (I don't teach that) : A (75-90)
Maths (Achille's Heel Number 1): C (50 - 64)
Science (Mini Achille's heel) : B (65-74)
Aggregate score: 206

Wha!! It's a real pleasant surprise to know that she cleared her maths, and scored better than i could have targetted. My target for her is a minimal of 200. And the gal's happy with her result. So i'm really glad for her.

She sent me an sms just 3 hours earlier:

A: I think this is bad news for you cause my mum wants you to teach me in sec 1.
me: Haha. But if that's the case, then next year we push for better grades. Lol.

....

She didn't reply. I think she went -_-"' when she saw my response. Hahahaha...

One of my ex-students whom i've taught in 2005, suddenly appear on msn. And i've asked her for her results. Geraldine and younger sister Rachael was a source of stress to me (haha.. pun intended), because they were 2 sisters who are really kinda deprived of attention as their parents worked long hours and was alone only with the maid. And i had a hard time coaching them because they were so restless!! Anyway, this was her results.

Geraldine
English: A*
Maths: A
Science: A
Aggregate: 243

Really good results hor? Wow. I'm happy for her definitely. But the gal's not happy la, because she lacks 7 marks to qualify for the school she wants to go. Hope she still manage to squeeze in when the posting results come.

I have been seriously thinking if i should teach next year, ie Primary School vs Lower Secondary. But as i saw the results, it seems that all the frustrations and tiredness that i've experienced during those times are just - Nothing.

There's great joy in tutoring. If i ended up in MOE 2 years ago, i think i won't be able to make a difference in this one student. =)

I love tutoring!!!
