Yeah. This entry is not about time power today.
Well, just want to say that the book is really mind-blowing and very helpful!!!
It really taught me a lot of different methods of doing things, literally deep stuff. U know, real stuff, cannot bluff!
I like the way it writes, because, it's very clear cut, telling you in your face, sets you thinking. And i don't usually give such comments unless it really blows my mind, just like the books of Pst Phil or Pst Ulf etc.
This is a secular book. And, yeah, it brought forth remembrance from what i've learnt in church, just that it brings forth a secular revelation to it, and brings me to be more effective in engaging the marketplace.
Think since i started to maintain this task list thing, life at work is improving. And with the reading of Time Power, i've adapted certain principles from it, and it's really helping me a lot. Examples such as:
a) ABCDEFG your priority
Well yesterday, i gave ETA my task list to let him know what i'm doing. And on my priority list i have stuff like 'A-1, A-2.... C' I learnt this on Wednesday morning reading the book on the way to work. A means very urgent stuff, B means important but not urgent stuff, C mean not so important and can wait. D mean... Discard; can don't need to do at all, and can delegate it to someone else.
Guess my Boss must be thinking : "wha... how come so many alphabets". But well, seems like this system is really working well. But it's really sh** to do it with Excel at times, because i have this streak in me that, i just want them prioritize in list, so the whole day i was shifting one row here and there and everywhere. Yah, very time consuming huh. -_-''' Urgh, shall reduce this, waste time!!!!
b) When you give someone a task, don't take it back
Late last week, someone asked me to do his job of filling in some profile. Well, previously i really wasted quite some time on it, thinking it's my task. That day, i showed ETA what it was. He said that it's NOT part of my scope, because the someone should have the details. Hmmm, well, since i gave him what i could give him, i shouldn't just let it sit in my tray and wait for him to ask me for it. So i told him to find out what he need to do. He did try to tai-ji it to me, but i said NO. I'm not taking it back. I have more things to do, ok. Everyone's busy, but i don't think i want to focus on that task that doesn't belong to me. My time is to focus on some other stuff, though not as important as his, but...
This is one good way of identifying what's my task and what's not. Now not overwhelmed. I'm loving every minute of it.
c) Pareto's theory; 20% of what you plan to do will determine 80% of your end results.
In short 80/20 lah. It's like, u use 20% of the time, to achieve 80% of your overall result, and the 80% of time used to get 20% of desire result. What do you choose? Of course the 20% to get 80% right?!
I struggled for the past 3 months because of this 80% time to 20% result. Wha Lau. Waste of time!!! Now, when i enter the office, i sit down to take a quick check, and look at all my "A-x" priority list, and think what i need to do first.
When you fail to plan, you plan to fail. 100% true.
Recommendation : Hamper and Florist provider
Yesterday morning, i got an email from ETA, which i was asked to order some hampers. It's a new thing, because i've never ordered something like that. So, he said i can order through Noel or Far East Flora. Wow... high class florist.
But then, sometimes, being high-class or FAMOUS florist doesn't mean that you can really deliver. I happily typed the email order to NG... and ended up with a call that say: "Oh, we run out of stock already. Sorry!" And i'm so amazed that, they only call back at 2pm when i've made the order via mail at 11am. Hmmmm....
So, the mad rush to source for hamper.... Actually, come to think of it, it's very fun. Because, i guess i love the process of researching yellowpages. And it's not just like keying in 'hamper' will lead to it. It only bring me 18 companies to call, and none of them are available. Geez.
Anyway, so i typed another option. Under the name option, 'hamper'.
I went about for like 30 mins, searching and ping-ing ppl on msn for help. And at 5pm, i struck gold!!! And i'm going to recommend them, HERE.
I tell you, they are simply amazing. I called, they said that they can customize, i gave them the budget, within an hour, they mailed me with the items, WITH a picture of the stuff. Totally blown away. And it's only this morning that i replied them, got approval within 30mins. That was like 9am today. And 10am, i told them to try to send in today. At 2pm, they called me with a smile and say that all the 8 hampers are already delivered!!! Wow. This closed the loop of the hampers, within 36 hours.
10am and 2 pm is only 4 hours. And within that time, they wrapped up and delivered to all 8 locations!!! And they are like not very near to one another. They even wrapped it nicely, not in the normal triangular shape hamper (okok, i still dunno how they look, because they know that we want it delivered asap, and they didn't have time to take a pic to show us. See! so professional. :)) )
I'm so impressed with them. They are prompt, fast and effective, not to mention efficient.
And their name really speaks of what they can deliver:
Gift and Hampers Paradise
Wow!!
So, if you are looking for hamper in this season, you can call them. Just go to www.gnhparadise.com.sg
One thing though: If you want deliveries next week, they are on leave and will start operations on 26th Feb. But when u do the order, within what they can do, they will deliver within the next working day. They may be operating on a small scale business, but it's personalized.
So, small and unheard providers are sometimes better than big and famous providers.
Tomorrow is the Eve of the Lunar New Year, urshering in the year of the OINK. So here's wishing all readers HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!
